
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, established in 1986, offers UG, PG and research (leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D.) programs. The B.E. program is autonomous under VTU(2007) and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in 2008 and re-accredited during the years 2012 & 2015. The Department practices outcome-based education since 2014. With state-of-the-art laboratories and other supporting facilities to provide enhanced learning environment, the Department boasts of well qualified teaching faculty with rich research, teaching and industrial experience.
The Department has excellent placement track record in reputed industries with an average of 80 – 85% placement of eligible students over the years. The Department regularly conducts audit courses, and special courses on advanced topics, to bridge the gap between the curriculum and the need of the industry. The Department offers M.Tech programs in Computer Science & Engineering and in Software Engineering (autonomous under VTU) from the academic year 2003-04 and 2015-16 respectively.

Bachelor of Engineering in Computer & Communication Engineering is designed to provide expertise to those students who seek specialization in Computer Communication Technologies and Telecommunications. The main focus of the programme is on Computer Networks (Wired and Wireless) and Telecommunications technologies. The course offers subjects in Computer Science, Cloud Computing, Multimedia Communications and Big Data Analytics. Emphasis is placed throughout the course on developing the practical skills and in-depth knowledge required by the present industrial scenario. This course, equips students to engage in research focusing on the fusion of multi-disciplinary skills employed in designing modern computing devices with communication channels, communication systems with advanced computer algorithms and systems.
Today, in India there is huge demand of Network Professionals and a large number of NMAMIT alumni are already placed in companies focused on Network Technologies like Nutanix, Broadcom, Cisco, Wipro, Akamai, VMWare, Crowdfire, Sony, Phillips, HCL, Alctel, Informatica, Dell EMC, Juniper, TEK Systems, Texas, Sonata, Cohesity etc.
The course provides experiential learning on basic and advanced courses in computer science, communication networks, security and associated subjects.
It is a professional degree that integrates communication techniques, problem-solving strategies, simulation skills and mathematical foundations with the hands-on training required to solve real-world problems.
Bachelor of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning equips students with the skills and knowledge required to analyse, design and control intelligent systems.The main objective of offering this program is developing professionals who are skilled in the area of AI & ML. This program enables students to gain in-depth understanding of fundamental subjects in Computer Science and deals with technologies like image processing, machine learning, natural language processing, neural networks, deep learning, reinforcement learning and big data analytics. This course is designed for both academic and skill based education to create a bright career for the students
M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering,started in the academic year 2003-04aims to empower students with recent developments and advanced knowledge in various frontier areas of computer science and engineering. Students are provided with options to concentrate on specializing in one or more streams within computer science from the first semester with elective courses. During the beginning of first semester, students are mentored to identify, formulate, review, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems in the broad domain of computer science.
Computer Science & Engineering department is an established Research Centre of VTU Belagavi since 2007 offering Ph.D programmes both Part-Time and Full-Time. Admission to the full-time doctoral programme follows a rigorous process of test and interview. The Computer Society of India(CSI), started in the institute in the year 2007, aims at imparting technical knowledge and ethical responsibilities in the students through all its activities. It encourages and motivates students to organize and volunteer in various workshops & events to instill in them a sense of responsibility, confidence and determination. It also aims at overall personality development by providing hands on workshops to educate students in latest trends. The theoretical knowledge obtained in the classes is used for the implementation, hence providing the practical knowledge to all. Technical talks are arranged to keep students updated about the recent technologies. Every possible attempt is made to equip students with the best of technical knowledge to mould them into a perfect engineer.
Computer Society of India (CSI), India’s largest and oldest body of information technology professionals, has instituted national awards for individuals and organizations with significant contribution to the IT community. During the 53rd Annual CSI Convention - 2020 held at KIIT University, Bhubaneshwar, Odissa, during 16th - 18th January 2020, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was awarded with prestigious " Best Accredited Student Branch Award " and “Largest Student Branch Award” for contributions made during 2017-2019. The selection for the Best Chapters awards and Best Student Branch awards are based on the last three years' performance and activities among nearly 400 institutions. With more than 700 membership count, CSI Student Branch at NMAM Institute of Technology has conducted more than hundred technical events including conferences, workshops, technical talks, seminars, quizzes, paper presentations and various competitions for engineering students in last three years.

Student Chapters provide unique opportunities for networking, mentoring and bonding over common interests. They provide support both within the student community and to local communities outside the institution.
Started in May 2015, NMAMIT ACM is actively conducts various technical and professional events like workshops, trainings, coding competitions, paper presentations, symposium, industry visits etc.
The Institution of Engineers (India), a national organization of engineers in India has more than a million members in 15 engineering disciplines in 114 centers or chapters in India and overseas; it is the world's largest multi-disciplinary engineering professional society in engineering and technology world. Established in 1920 in Kolkata it is acclaimed to have pioneered non-formal education in engineering. The Institution of Engineers (India) conducts an examination of its associate membership which is considered to be on par with B.E. / B.Tech. When contemplated as an eligibility qualification to write competitive examinations like the Indian Civil Service, Indian Engineering Services, GATE, etc., and for employment in Government, public and private sectors in India. This qualification is recognized by the Ministry of HRD, government of India, as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. The Institution of Engineers (India) was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935. It is currently headquartered in 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata. NMAMIT has Institution of Engineers (India) students’ chapter for all the branches with About 1500 student members. This chapter has been conducting branch level, Institution level and intercollegiate level technical programs.
The activities of Internet of Things (IOT) were initiated in our college in year 2015. Dr. D.K.Sreekantha, Professor of CSE was designated as the coordinator. Intel Corporation, Bangalore has sponsored 80 Intel Galileo Boards and funds Rs 3.5 Lakhs (2.0+1.5) to promote organizing the programmes and student project activities. Workshops, Invited Talks from Experts are organized for students from time to time. Students are working on IOT related project in teams to implement the project ideas. A staff mentor is assigned to each project team to guide and assess the project.
IOT centre was established in the institute in the year 2017 to encourage students of all streams and semesters to work on IOT ideas facilitating students to work even after college hours. Students participated in IOT project exhibitions and Hackathons such as Intel Rapid Prototyping Camps, State level Industrial IOT exhibition in Bantakal and NASSCOM Innovation Challenge competitions.
The Association of Computer Engineers (ACE), a club in NMAMIT Nitte, has been formed by the students of Computer Science and Engineering with an objective ofcreating a platform for students to participate in co-curricular activities and mingle with other students. The motive of this association is to bring out the hidden talent and to involve each member in various activities so that the youth exuberance should not be confined to the class room.
